Deanna Strable is president and chief executive officer of Principal Financial Group and also serves on the Company’s Board of Directors. Deanna joined Principal in 1990 as an actuarial assistant and held a variety of positions as she progressed in the organization. She helped build the company’s Benefits and Protection business as the first leader of its Specialty Benefits division and in leading the integration with its life insurance business before stepping into the role of business unit president in 2015. Deanna then served as chief financial officer from 2017 until August 2024, when she was named president and chief operating officer. She assumed her current role in January 2025. Deanna is a member of the Board of Directors for Elevance Health, Inc., and Simpson College. She previously served on the United Way Worldwide Board of Trustees after holding various positions for the United Way of Central Iowa. She also served as chair of the Board of Directors for LIMRA LOMA Global (LL Global, Inc.).
